First homes unveiled in £16.5m Sheffield housing development

The first phase of properties to be released for let to the public at a new landmark £16.5 million housing development in Sheffield, has today been unveiled by one of the UK’s leading build-to-rent developers.

The impressive Skye Edge development created by Placefirst is situated at the boundary of Norfolk Park and the Manor area of Sheffield and is visible from miles around – boasting a unique 270-degree view of the cityscape and moorland to the West. The site had remained vacant and awaiting redevelopment since 2005, so is anticipated to have a transformational effect on the wider area.

Offering convenient commuter routes and a 10-minute walk to the city centre, it will create a thriving family community of 113 new homes comprising 69 three-bedroom and 44 four-bedroom townhouses.

The first 21 properties and show home will open to the public for viewings from January 2. Each home delivers modern living with stylish interiors and practical layouts for busy family lifestyles or for those who are looking to start a career in the city. Each one has a separate lounge and kitchen, with residents able to enjoy both private and communal garden spaces.

Skye Edge is underpinned by Placefirst’s aim to offer a viable alternative to home ownership. The developer doesn’t just let properties, it also designs, builds, maintains and manages the homes – providing peace of mind to those local families looking for new affordable modern living without the financial headache of a mortgage.

There are seven primary and secondary schools within reasonable walking distance to the development including five that have been given a Good outcome by Ofsted. Economic growth in Sheffield is also outperforming other regional cities and is on target to create an additional 70,000 jobs by 2025.

Skye Edge is located just off Skye Edge Avenue, close by to both City Road and Granville Road, two of the busiest routes into the city. Work on the development is expected to be completed in the Autumn of 2021.

David Mawson, chief executive for Placefirst, said: “Offering arguably the best views in Sheffield, this is a major landmark development for us and one which we feel will be embraced by families seeking quality built homes and superb commuter routes into the city centre. As a developer, our long-term vision for Skye Edge is to create a vibrant, thriving community which complements and enhances the surrounding area.

“Expensive house prices can be out of reach for many hard-working families. We therefore believe that renting can be a long-term alternative to buying a house and feel this development will appeal to those wanting the security of moving to a new home for the rest of their life – without the financial pressure of being saddled with a mortgage. We look forward to welcoming people to Skye Edge to view our beautiful new homes and experience the views they have to offer.”
