York-based internet service provider, York Data Services, has recently completed a £250,000 upgrade to futureproof its privately owned full fibre national (internet) network, which connects York, Leeds and London.
York Data Services has invested over £1m nin developing the private, fully resilient network since 2009. Bringing lightning-fast internet speeds with multi-gigabit capability, it directly connects businesses in York, Leeds and beyond to the UK’s national internet exchanges, based in London and Leeds.
Designed to meet the ever-growing demand for high quality connectivity for businesses to maintain their national and global competitive edge, the network has ultra-low latency and is fully secure and resilient.
Businesses in the North are also able to connect directly to the global internet through IXLeeds, the only independent internet hub outside London. This means businesses can compete on a like-for-like basis by benefitting from the fastest download and upload speeds available in the UK, even when transferring masses of data by multiple users.
A pioneer in bringing gigabit connectivity to York and helping the city achieve its aspirations of becoming the UK’s first gigabit city, York Data Services co-founder, Mark Fordyce, has also been instrumental in co-founding and developing IX Leeds, the Leeds based Northern Internet Exchange.
Mark said: “We are very proud of our private network which has required significant investment over the last decade or so. Our aim is to provide our clients with the connectivity they need for their business to compete in today’s digital world. We are continually upgrading it and future proofing the infrastructure and we are very pleased to have completed this phase of the work despite the Covid-19 pandemic.”
York Data Services’ full fibre network is exclusive to its clients across Yorkshire and the UK. The company specialises in providing secure, dedicated and ultra-fast connectivity for businesses, business centres and parks, and multi-site offices. Since it was founded in 2003, York Data Services has built up an impressive client list of prominent regional and national businesses and organisations.
