Best Western Hotel in West Yorkshire sold for the first time in 22 years

Specialist business property advisor, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of the Best Western Bradford Guide Post Hotel, a 42-bedroom Best Western branded hotel in Bradford, West Yorkshire. The hotel has been sold for the first time in 22 years to expanding, family-run hotel group, JDP Hotels Group.

Located on the south side of Bradford just two miles from the M62 motorway, with easy access to Leeds, Halifax, Wakefield and Huddersfield, The Guide Post Hotel is a well-established weddings and function venue. The hotel comprises 42 recently refurbished bedrooms and suites, a 20-cover bar, a fully licensed restaurant with space for 85-covers which is currently closed and two large conference and events suites.

The previous owner, Alexander Guthe has owned and operated the hotel since 1998 and made the decision to sell to pursue other property ventures.

The new owners, JDP Hotels plan to continue to run the Guide Post Hotel under the current umbrella of Best Western, with the existing management team remaining in place.

Commenting on the purchase, family member, Pratik Paw, said, “Despite the difficult times, our group have confidence in the recovery of the hospitality sector in the medium term, particularly established hotels with a good reputation and a proven onsite management team, such as the Guide Post Hotel. We are extremely pleased to welcome the hotel and its team into our group.”

The Guide Post Hotel was marketed by David Lee, regional director in Christie & Co’s Hospitality team, who said: “We were delighted to work with the owners of this hotel and achieve a sale in a short period of time. Marketing commenced in October 2020 and there were a number of interested parties.

“A transaction completing in less than 6 months from instruction to completion is an achievement we are proud of. We would like to thank Mr Guthe for the opportunity to sell his hotel and would very much like to wish JDP Hotels every success in their new venture. The market for selling hotels as demonstrated by this sale remains surprisingly robust considering the macro environment.”

The purchase of The Guide Post Hotel adds a further 42 bedrooms to the groups growing portfolio, accompanied by a successful weddings and functions arm and an 85-cover bar and restaurant. Other properties in the group’s portfolio include the Best Western Hotel St Pierre in Wakefield and The Beaufort Park Hotel and Conference Centre in Mold, North Wales.
