Market town development gives nod to Roman era discovery

A new select housing development close to the centre of the popular market town of Boroughbridge is giving a nod to historic artifacts uncovered during its construction.

Vineries Farmstead, off Roecliffe Lane, is located on a site steeped in history which has revealed finds from the late Iron Age and Roman periods to the old glasshouses used to cultivate vines during the mid-20th Century.

And one of the five properties being brought to life by Brigantia Homes is named Kiln House, after remains of a Roman kiln were discovered during an archaeological dig.

The family homes, which range in price from £575,000 for the four-bedroom Hayloft Barn to £685,000 for the five-bedroom The Old Furnace, are being marketed by Linley & Simpson’s specialist Land and New Homes division which launched in 2015 with just a single member of staff and six properties.

Fast forward six years, and it now employs a growing team of six and has seen its new home sales portfolio increase to over 500, with more than three times that number in the pipeline.

It was crowned Best Land and New Homes team in the UK in the most recent residential property industry’s “Oscars”, drawing judges’ praise for the raft of initiatives it has designed to support Yorkshire housebuilders in launching their developments to market.

The layout and design of Vineries Farmstead recreates an old farmstead setting of brick and oak clad barns, oak framed outbuildings and an old farmhouse. Natural materials are used, with external walls in carefully selected brick and roof coverings in natural clay pantiles or slates.

The use of oak continues inside the homes to doors and staircases. The designer kitchens have been created by David Charles, and the sanitaryware is from the Concept Air collection.

High efficiency gas-fired Viessmann boilers and underfloor zoned heating is installed to all ground floor areas. The homes are pre-wired for telephone/internet, providing ultra-fast broadband, and Sky/satellite connections.

Cart lodges for parking are constructed in oak frames, supporting ‘attic trusses’ offering potential space for future conversion. Each house comes with an EV charging point.

The first three Vineries Farmstead properties are due for completion in July/August, with the remaining two being finished the following month.
