Sheffield Tech Academy getting students hired during the pandemic

Leading Sheffield-based Software and Coding School, The Developer Academy, has been remotely training students throughout the pandemic and working with local businesses to place them in software development roles.

Recently, two students enrolled on the Software Developer Bootcamp were hired before even finishing the course, as a direct result of the high quality training provided by the academy.

Aalya Banu started her training in 2020, and was offered a role as a Graduate Software Engineer at epiGenesys before graduating. She says, “I was introduced to coding in secondary school as a part of the computer science curriculum. I absolutely loved everything about it. It felt exciting and empowering.”

“I signed up for an introductory web development course called Tech Set Go run by The Developer Academy at our local library. By the end of the course, I was able to build my very first website and found the whole experience quite enjoyable. When Ben, our course leader told me about the part-time bootcamp at TDA, I was very excited. Mainly because it was part-time and remote which worked perfectly around my schedule.”

She is now working full time in software engineering, and credits this career move to the team at The Developer Academy. Aalya said: “The support I received during and after the training has been remarkable. I am grateful to have enrolled at TDA. It gave me the steppingstone that I needed to get back into the tech industry after a career break. Ben and Neil were great with preparing me for interviews and keeping you feeling motivated during the job hunt.”

Another student, Matt Cotton, also found a role before graduating. He said: “The course structure really helped me learn a lot of news skills which were directly relevant to being a web developer in an industrial setting. In addition to this Ben supported my job search throughout the course. This included pointing me towards companies that were hiring, discussing which roles were a good fit for me and reviewing my CV & cover letters.”

Matt now works as a frontend developer at Playwerks, a research and development agency based in Sheffield.

The pandemic has undeniably created an increased demand for virtual and digital services, and schools like The Developer Academy have ensured that many UK adults are able to find employment during a time of anxiety over job security.

If anyone is interested in making a career change, or just up-skilling their current experience, course at The Developer Academy are available to book online now.
