KD Recruitment has been shortlisted as Covid Champion 2020 in the national REC Awards 2021, it has been revealed.
The REC Awards are run and hosted by the Recruitment Employment Confederation, the national membership organisation overseeing the recruitment industry. This year, the event is marking its twelfth annual outing, showcasing the talents of the recruitment sector, from agencies to multinationals.
Kelly Dunn, managing director of KD Recruitment, said: “As recruitment specialists, the Covid-19 Pandemic brought a number of challenges which KD Recruitment were able to tackle.
“As well as ensuring my own staff were safe and supported, we coordinated free virtual workshops to help anyone with cover letter and CV writing skills, along with interview preparation and careers surgeries. These were open to anyone looking for work as the Pandemic affected everyone.”
Kelly added: “I was able to think about new ideas to be able to diversify my business, which included creating an Outplacement Division as well as launching KD Recruitment’s Temporary Staffing Service. I created a whole new business plan to look ahead post-Pandemic. This has resulted in at 16 per cent revenue increase.”
Kelly and her team forged a new way of working for the recruitment business and they are now recruiting strategists as well as a recruitment agency. Kelly was able to tailor the advice she was giving to help businesses that were recovering and look at their recruitment strategy and become a recruitment partner.
Kelly said: “We also tried to support many of the schools and colleges the Scarborough region by hosting virtual workshops on career guidance, first impressions and CV writing as well as virtual mock interviews with students from Year 9 through to Year 13.
“I feel very passionately about students getting as much advice and guidance as possible with their careers when they are at school as these students are our tomorrow.”
Kelly spent the last three months of 2020 working on her own Covid Report about the effects that the Pandemic had on the region. She spoke to over 50 business owners as part of her case studies and surveyed over 200 people to show a really positive outlook for the North Yorkshire region. This report enabled her to speak to the media and share the positive outlook as well as a number of conversations with local MPs.
Most recently, Kelly was asked to record a video on recruiting a more neurodiverse workforce for the REC 2021 Conference.

“The REC Awards entry process is now exclusively for Recruitment and Employment Confederation members, and their 14 categories recognise both individual achievement and company-wide success.”
