National property consultancy Carter Jonas has successfully sold a 15.94 acre (6.45 ha) freehold residential development opportunity in the local authority district of Selby, to local developers Johnson Massey Developments Ltd.

The site, a former barracks constructed in the 1940s as part of RAF Acaster Malbis, is situated less than 1.5 miles from Appleton Roebuck, two miles south west of Acaster Malbis and six miles south of York.

Planning permission for the construction of seven homes was granted by Selby District Council. The development site includes existing buildings which may also be suitable for conversion, subject to planning.

Johnson Massey Developments Ltd is owned by Carl Massey and Tony Johnson, who have 25 years’ experience of building high quality and individual homes in York and the surrounding villages. This includes the recently completed development at Hemingbrough.

Carl Massey of Johnson Massey Developments Ltd, said: “We are very excited by the prospect of the new site at Appleton Roebuck. This is a fantastic opportunity to create some highly desirable properties in such a sought after location.

“The consented properties are to be built in a unique style, combining modern and sustainable technologies whilst reflecting the site’s military history. The 16 acre site creates a generous space for each home, and the landscape design will encourage nature and biodiversity – reflecting the beauty of the area.”

Steven Soper, associate in Carter Jonas’ Leeds office, said: “Carter Jonas was pleased to be chosen to market this unique opportunity. The properties will sit within a very desirable location and their future inhabitants will benefit from high quality modern conversions. We very much look forward to viewing the end product.”
