Knaresborough-based, not-for-profit organisation, Better Connect is launching a campaign this week to find a new chief executive officer (CEO) to lead its mission to empower every person in Yorkshire to thrive in their life and work.
Founded in 2007 by a group of forward-thinking innovators from the voluntary and community sector, Better Connect works in partnership with small, locally rooted organisations to deliver its strategy to transform lives, empower partners and inspire change with a particular focus on the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.
Working with over 200 delivery partners, Better Connect has supported more than 5,000 people across Yorkshire, empowering them through their programmes to try new things, be themselves and transform their lives.
The new CEO will build on a strong foundation with an exceptional staff team, 14-year track record of successfully delivering programmes, strong financial management and excellent relationships with partners and funders.
Applications are open to dynamic and visionary leaders with the ability to inspire those around them and take the organisation into its next stage of growth and change.
Current CEO Sam Alexander, is stepping down in April having been part of the business for 14 years and over that time holding positions as Programme Manager, Finance Team Lead and Head of Operations, before becoming CEO in 2016.
She said: “We are looking for someone who cares deeply about making a difference within our communities and believes in the power of human potential.
“This is a really exciting time for a new CEO to come into post to carve out a new path and create diverse opportunities for our partner organisations across all sectors. There has never been such a strong need for an organisation that can offer genuinely local, person-centred, and high-quality delivery of wide-ranging activities, at any scale.
“Being the CEO of Better Connect has been a genuine privilege and I am so grateful for the support of my Board, the unwavering commitment of my colleagues and the dedication and hard work of our partners in all the work we have done together.”
Working with the Board of Directors, the new CEO will contribute to setting the strategic goals and objectives of the Company and will be responsible for leading Better Connect through the next exciting phase of its development.
Chair Liz Burdett said: “We are seeking a new Chief Executive Officer who shares our values and has a real desire make a difference as we work towards our vision of making Yorkshire a place where every person can thrive in their life and work.
“This is a time of great change which brings opportunities for both our organisation and our wider partners, and we are seeking a new CEO who can support the organisation to realise these opportunities and do things differently, working across all sectors.”
The new CEO will join in Spring 2022 after Sam formally steps down from her role and will be accountable to Chair of the Board. This permanent role is currently part funded by the European Social Fund (ESF).
