The Hartley Group has agreed terms for four new occupiers to take space at Globe Innovation Centre in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield.

The Innovation Centre, which occupies three floors in the historic Globe Mill is now nearly 50 per cent let, just a few months following major redevelopment.

The new deals follow an announcement last December that Thornton & Ross has relocated 120 staff to occupy 16,000 sq ft of new headquarters accommodation at The Globe. A part of global healthcare company, STADA, Thornton & Ross is a prolific company that was founded in Huddersfield in 1922 and manufactures well-known brands such as Covonia, Savlon, Hedrin and Zoflora. The deal is the biggest in Kirklees for some time and set new headline rents for the region at £18 per sq ft.

Innovate Orthaepedics Ltd, which works closely with surgeons to design and manufacture medical devices, has secured a five year lease to take 1,000 sq ft on the fourth floor at Globe Innovation Centre.  Established in 2015 the award winning business has expanded rapidly to supply products globally and new premises at The Globe will help to facilitate further growth.

Alex Gutteridge, managing director and co-founder at Innovate Orthaepedics, said: “We are really pleased to secure new offices at The Globe which is an iconic building with remarkable historic relevance in the village.  It’s redevelopment will undoubtedly make a  positive impact on local businesses and the local environment is very appealing for staff.”

Manchester based Euro Digital Systems Ltd, which specialises in the supply and maintenance of digital printers and multi-function photocopiers, has also agreed to take 517 sq ft, also on the fourth floor for its Yorkshire operation, whilst Integrated Life Science (ILS) Group, has secured a further 688 sq ft on the fourth floor.

The fourth deal is agreed with electricity networks and transition to net zero specialists, Blake Clough Consulting which has secured a 200 sq ft self contained space.

Chris Smith, a spokesperson for Hartley, said: “We are delighted to announce these latest deals so soon after Thornton & Ross announced its HQ relocation to The Globe.  All five occupiers fit perfectly with our vision to transform The Globe into a future space for innovation.

“The Globe is assisting in driving the ‘PowerHouse of the North’ and is ideally located in the heart of Leeds City Region where innovators are supported and have access to the very best talent, universities and businesses to collaborate with.

“This state of the art business provision within a highly desirable place to live with fast connectivity to both Manchester and Leeds, has allowed these businesses to facilitate expansion plans but remain in the local area, supporting local employment.”

The Globe is a landmark in the heart of Slaithwaite, an up and coming village within the hotbed of enterprise emerging in Kirklees.  A unique partnership between Hartley Property Trust Ltd and Kirklees Council has allowed an investment of more than £5 million to transform The Globe to provide 80,000 sq ft of innovation space.

All five floors in the first of two significant buildings that were originally built in 1887 for textiles production have been redeveloped to deliver a state of the art innovation centre, laboratory space, medical suites, offices and retail space complete with a unique Artisan Hall.

Last year Hartley Property Trust agreed a 15 year lease with Colne Valley Group Practice and a pharmacy to occupy 6,000 sq ft of ground floor space in the building. It supports over 10,000 patients with consultation rooms, a minor operations room, nurse treatment rooms, administration space and a large multi use training room as well as the adjacent pharmacy.

The remaining medical space on the first floor is being targeted at ancillary health services such as dentist, optician, physiotherapist and holistic services with suites available from 500 to 7,500 sq ft .

Larger floor plates are also offered for office occupation from 1,000 sq ft to 15,000 sq ft and the Innovation Centre offers incubator office and laboratory accommodation from 150 sq ft upwards with business supportand mentoring available.

The Artisan Hall provides ‘shell specification ready’ opportunities for specialist food, drink and other local producers from 1,000 sq ft up to 7,500 sq ft.  for larger restaurant and bar operators.  Units are also available from 3,000 sq ft to 7,500 sq ft. at ground floor level for retail/convenience units with car park and canal frontages.

The Globe commands an impressive canal-side position in the centre of Slaithwaite which is one of the most picturesque villages in the Colne Valley. It is located on the main A62 trunk road linking Huddersfield with Manchester with direct rail access to Huddersfield town centre, Leeds, Manchester and beyond.  The redevelopment also includes a new pedestrian bridge over the canal basin, linking to Carr Street which is the main retail area and high street of Slaithwaite.
