A Leeds law firm, which is a national trade union specialist, is celebrating its 140 anniversary.

Morrish Solicitors LLP, whcih was established in 1882,  works with trade unions and associations, their members and private clients on all aspects of employment law, personal injury, medical negligence, property, wills and estates, dispute resolution and family law.

The firm was founded in Leeds by Harold Bee James, son of a non-Conformist minister. The firm represented its first association client, the Farriers and Blacksmiths in 1906. Its relationship with the trade union movement stems from this and is still flourishing.

David Sorensen, managing partner, said: “We were thrilled to have the opportunity to celebrate this momentous anniversary with our clients and friends from unions, associations and other organisations. We are 140 years young and were happy that some people travelled from around the country for our birthday. Here’s to another 140 years!”

Eric Morrish became a partner in the firm in 1919 following service in the First World War. The firm still bears his name and the family connection remains through his grandson Tom Morrish, senior partner and head of wills and estates.

Tom Morrish said: “I’m delighted that the firm has successfully provided legal services both locally in Leeds and now nationally for such a long period. With such strong roots, and retaining its independence, the firm is well placed to thrive for a long time into the future.”

The business is still privately-owned and in addition to its head office in Leeds, has branches across West Yorkshire in Yeadon, Pudsey and Bradford.

Morrish celebrated its landmark anniversary with an event at the Leeds office. In attendance were guests from national trade unions and associations, as well as industry peers and colleagues.
