The McCarthy Stone Foundation has delivered a funding boost to the Hull Food Bank to help bring festive cheer to local people who are struggling this Christmas.
McCarthy Stone, which operates four Retirement Living developments in the East Riding of Yorkshire area, has given £500 to Hull Foodbank, which will enable local people to obtain provisions for the holiday period.
Opened in 2011, Hull Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust Food Bank network which works to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. The Foodbank provides three days of nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people in crisis referred to it.
As well as its city centre location, it also operates a food bank centre in East Hull, making food collection easier for people living in that area. For further information, visit https://hull.foodbank.org.uk/.
Russ Barlow from Hull Foodbank said: “This is a really timely donation from McCarthy Stone as we approach what is traditionally our busiest time of the year. More families and older people than ever seem to be struggling and coming to us for help due to rapidly rising costs across the board – not just for food but for other items too.
“This £500 will allow us to purchase and give out additional food parcels so we can do more to ensure nobody in the Hull area misses out on some festive fare this Christmas.”
The McCarthy Stone Foundation supports grassroots, volunteer led charitable causes that promote the health and wellbeing of older people. It is the independent, registered charity of the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement communities, McCarthy Stone, which has developments in Andrews Court in Beverley; Fairway View in Brough; Springs Court in Cottingham; and Stapleton Court in Swanland.
Graeme Marsh, foundation manager at the McCarthy Stone Foundation, said: “We were eager to do something to help the local community in Hull, where many people are experiencing hard times through no fault of their own.
“Hull Foodbank does so much good throughout the year but especially at Christmas when its vital work ensures many people really can enjoy this special time of year. Their volunteers work tirelessly to ensure support is provided to those who need it, and we are delighted that our donation will allow them to do even more for the local community this festive season.”
