Aphasia Support, the Yorkshire charity that supports people living with complex communication conditions like aphasia and apraxia, has welcomed Leeds leadership expert, Rubina Rashid, to its board of trustees.
With 15-years’ experience in enterprise, leadership and education, Rubina brings a wide range of knowledge to her new role, having held numerous board and trustee positions throughout her career.
With a proven track record for helping businesses scale and grow, Rubina will support the charity as it expands its services significantly this year.
With an ambitious five-year growth strategy, Aphasia Support will be employing a number of speech and language therapists this year, enabling the charity to expand its geographical support territories.
Additional Aphasia Cafes, which provide the opportunity for people with aphasia and carers to socialise in a supported environment, will also launch. The ultimate aim is to bolster investment to safeguard the future of the charity.
Rubina joins Francesca Coleman, Patrick Heaton, Rachel Sykes, Michelle Ruddock, Andrea Reas, Peter Osborne and Ian Potter, who together support the charity with advice on legal requirements, finance, operations, marketing, programme management, speech and language therapy, as well as bringing first-hand experience of the challenges those living with aphasia face.
Rubina said: “Championing the charity sector is something that I am very passionate about, and as an experienced trustee across a range of industries, I feel I can add great value to Aphasia Support. The charity is on an upward trajectory and is leading the way for aphasia support in the region. I am excited to be a part of this journey and supporting the team as they expand their range of vital services.”
James Major, CEO of Aphasia Support, said: “we are delighted to welcome Rubina to our board of trustees. Her experience in helping businesses scale and grow will be invaluable for us as we expand into new services and geographies this year. Rubina will play a vital role in safeguarding the future of the charity for many years to come.”
