Scotch Corner Hotel launches post lockdown alfresco dining and drinking concept

The gazebos will be laid out in a socially spacious way, allowing a safe experience for everyone

One of North Yorkshire’s best known hotels has launched a new alfresco dining and drinking concept.

The Scotch Corner Hotel, Richmond, has erected three gazebos within its grounds, each of which can accommodate private parties of six and be hired for three hours at a time, either at noon or 4pm.

Those taking advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the company of family members and friends have a number of dining and drinking packages to choose from, priced at either £80, or £120 for the Premium Afternoon Tea Basket.

There are six different £80 packages, including charcuterie board and two bottles of wine; loaded fries and bucket of six bottles of beer or cider; and a feast of starters with bucket of six bottles of beer or cider.

Scotch Corner Hotel general manager Tim Snowdon said: “We are all looking forward to Monday’s launch of our new, alfresco dining and drinking concept.

“Whilst the hospitality industry is only allowed to serve guests outdoors for the time being, we see this as the beginning of the end of Covid restrictions and the start of being able to return to life as normal.

“We are lucky that the hotel and our Active Life Leisure Club are situated within fairly sizable grounds, which has allowed us to erect these gazebos, each of which comes with a fire pit, guest picnic blankets and marshmallows for toasting.

“The gazebos will be laid out in a socially spacious way, allowing a safe experience for everyone. The only thing guests need to do is arrive at their allotted time then sit back and enjoy catching up with friends, family or loved ones, whilst we do the rest.”

The 91-bedroom Scotch Corner Hotel was built in 1939 on the site of a former coaching inn, The Three Tuns, which was demolished when the Roman road it was situated on was widened to create a dual carriageway.

Officially known as the Holiday Inn Darlington - A1 Scotch Corner, it is part of The Cairn Group, which also owns the Majestic Hotel in Harrogate, Elmbank Hotel in York and the Holiday Inn Express Wakefield.
