Cyclists raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance in the Yorkshire Pedalthon this September will enjoy some of the region’s specialities courtesy of regional food and drink producers.

Organised by Iconic Cycling Events, the Pedalthon is the largest annual charity bike ride for the business community in Yorkshire. This year’s ride, staged on Thursday 8 September, is expected to attract more than 250 riders from the property and business sectors across the UK.

There is a choice of a 38 or 67-mile route into the Dales with both rides starting and finishing at Masham Cricket Club. The food stops along both routes are a popular feature of the rides and showcase some of the best produce the region has to offer.

Riders will be able to fortify themselves with a Yorkshire menu of award-winning pork pies, cheese, biscuits, flapjack and fruit, all washed down by a steaming hot cup of Yorkshire tea and a refreshing pint.

Toppings Pies, Yorkshire Tea, the Wensleydale Creamery, Bothams of Whitby, Riverford Organic Farmers, Haribo and Yorkshire Flapjack are just some of the Yorkshire producers who are supporting the ride.

Now in its seventh year, this year’s ride is raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance The event has welcomed more than 1,500 cyclists and raised £80,000 for local charities since its launch in 2014.

Lin Stead, Yorkshire Air Ambulance regional fundraising manager (East & North), said: “We would like to thank Iconic Cycling Events for choosing us as the main beneficiary for this year’s Yorkshire Pedalthon in September.

“It costs £12,000 every day to keep both Yorkshire air ambulances maintained and in the air. Support from events such as the Yorkshire Pedalthon is the lifeblood of our charity. In rural North Yorkshire journey times to hospital are much longer and our rapid response service can make a great difference to a patient’s outcome.”

Roger Topping, managing director at Toppings Pies, said: “As a proud Yorkshire pie producer, we are delighted to support this year’s Pedalthon which showcases the very best of Yorkshire - from its tasty produce to its stunning scenery - while supporting a great charity.

“We hope all the riders enjoy their Yorkshire experience and that our award-winning pies help power the legs of the riders on to the finish.”

Entry is open to both individuals and corporate teams and costs £60 per rider, £360 per team of 6, £480 per team of 8 or £600 per team of 10.

The Yorkshire Pedalthon 2022 is being staged in partnership with the Institute of Directors Yorkshire and North East, one of the UK’s leading business support organisations.

This year’s sponsors are Carter Jonas, DWF Law, Absolute Interiors and Breathing Space.
